I am a retired lawyer who is now a presentation training and coach. I am unique because I used to be a scared and terrible presenter and now I’m not.
As a retired lawyer, I understand detail-oriented people (lawyers, accountants, engineers, etc). Having started as a terrified and terrible presenter, I know how it feels to do presentations without being equipped with the skills to deliver them well and to lose an audience in all the details! I have learned the brain science of how people learn and remember and how to use that knowledge to do much better presentations.
Although I am under 5 feet in height, I played ice hockey for many years (I think it was 15 or so), first for the Law Faculty at University of Toronto and then in the Lower Mainland Women's Ice Hockey League. I have attended the Vancouver Folk Music Festival every year but one since 1983. I volunteer with Dress for Success Vancouver as the Volunteer Coordinator of the Professional Women's Group Alumnae. I also volunteer with Employ to Empower as a co-facilitator of a course that takes people facing challenges from business idea to basic business plan and pitch in 9 weeks.
I want all informative presentations and pitches to be memorable and engaging. I want all detail-oriented people to feel competent, be recognized for their expertise, and to have their key information remembered.
