everything stems from paying attention to detail. constantly reinventing wardrobes and redecorating apartments. discovering new thrift shops and local boutiques. curating jewelry and clothing collections. working in costume and set design for film, photo shoots and music videos. playing with pieces and using them for unintended uses. making custom requests for personal purchases. experimenting with other crafts. looking to collaborate with other creative individuals, and taking on internships to continue my growth both an artist and human being, as well as adding new skill sets to my repertoire.
I want to help women find and build their personal looks, wardrobe and style. I’d also like to transfer those findings into their homes, and homes away from home, by beautifying and personalizing spaces that that important in their lives. (ie. homes, offices, businesses)
- all ages. all shapes. for all occasions.
- who want to add more layers to their look
- who want to develop a deeper sense of themselves and their personal and/or professional style
- who want to upgrade the look of their professional wardrobe
- who want to stand out
- who want to nerd out about colour and print combinations
- who aren't afraid to accessorize
- who want more permission to play with their wardrobe
- who want help when it comes to curating a new look for a specific event (ie. wedding, vacation, date, etc.)
- who want help when it comes to creating a specific look for a professional event. (ie. conference, photo shoot, commercial/film, etc.)
I want to work with what you already have, always focusing on what can be recycled first. if we get to the point where we feel the need to add certain pieces to complete your wardrobe, I have a strict rule of only shopping at local boutiques and/or second-hand shops. I try not to support fast fashion by choosing to support local, independent designers instead, as well as proving that you can find super cool thrift pieces also.
we all get dressed every day. why not make it a fun process, and allow it to enhance how we feel about ourselves and present ourselves to the world? fashion can seem trendy and ever-evolving, but if you choose pieces that make you FEEL good, you will LOOK good. (and when you look and feel good, you DO good.)
I studied fashion and costume in school. I've worked in retail, creating window displays and dressing mannequins. I've worked in film, curating wardrobe and set design. I've collected many valuable lessons in style and styling throughout my academic and professional endeavours. but most importantly, I know the joy that bringing together the perfect look, for the perfect occasion (or no occasion at all), can bring. I've deeply thought about what creates that magic and why it feels so good, and I want to spread that to other woman.
I have previously never had any styling sessions with someone who is as knowledgable as Mikaela before! It was mindblowing how many undiscovered outfits that could be put together with the wardrobe I have had for years. Mikaela really helped me look at my clothes and, most importantly, me, differently! There were a lot of pieces that I was never going to wear and eventually donate. But she was able to put them into many outfits! During the entire session, she was extremely patient with talking to me and, therefore, able to put together just the right outfits for expressing who I am! I can really tell how passionate Mikaela is with her work, which makes the session even better! I really recommend Mikaela and her service to all women who wanted to have their styles be more in sync with who they are!
Between mothering a 3 year old and navigating a separation I realized that I had lost myself and my sense of self confidence. My outward appearance didn't even make it into my priority list. When it came to my wardrobe I had several individual items that "sparked joy" but I could never really piece items together to make an outfit. Enter Mikaela! I was drawn to her enthusiasm for all things design and I knew that was what my wardrobe (and life) needed. I was nervous for our appointment because my closet is quite small and I thought that there was no way she would be able to curate 5 outfits (besides the jeans and a T that I usually turn to). But to my surprise she did way more than that. She went through my closet piece by piece and taught me how to see if the pieces went together or not. She provided me with outfits for all different occasions. When some of her suggestions felt out of my comfort zone (like pattern on pattern), she gave me a slight push to "just try it" and as it turned out, I loved the cool, comfortable confidence that was staring back at me in the mirror. Mikaela took the same old clothes that have been hanging in my closet and allowed me to see new life in them. My session was way more than 5 outfits, it was therapy with a large dose of self love. I HIGHLY recommend this session to anyone and everyone. I will be booking her again!
If there could be more gold starts to give to Mikaela I would. Her knowledge is incredible. Her eye for fashion - you can’t teach that. Pure talent. She walked into a charity event - a room of women tearing apart racks of consignment clothing for a good cause - and she remained incredibly calm and helpful the entire time. She helped women pick out clothing. Put together outfits. And she did so with ease, Grace, a helpful hand and a giving heart. Her gentle and loving demeanour was calming and got me through the day.
Thank you for all your hard work. If anyone needs a stylist they are lucky to have found you. I will definitely have you come to my place and build me some amazing outfits out of clothing I usually Would have discarded.
