Volition Advisor Specializing in Story and Pitch Design, and Public Speaking
Managing Partner at Volition | International Speaker | Professional Writer | Chief Operations Officer at Women in Tech | Advocate for Women and Girls in Tech | Government Funding Strategist | Remote Worker (Madrid) | Avid Adventurer
I help entrepreneurs thrive on purpose. Fueled by my own nonlinear path to entrepreneurship, I'm a huge proponent of defining and owning your voice, vision, and narrative as an entrepreneur and leader. As such, I work with my clients to navigate the ‘now what’ moments in their career and company growth, so that they can get back to a place of clarity and intentional action.
I focus on designing your story and helping you through those icky public speaking moments. Whether you are developing an elevator or investor pitch, are looking for government funding, or just want to clarify your message for your audience, I'm here to listen intently, ask the right questions, and guide you through the process.
Whether you are looking to design or refine your pitch, jam out on confidence building, public speaking or burnout, I'm here to advise, coach, and keep you accountable to your next steps. I do this through 20-minute Introductory calls and follow on virtual advising and accountability services. I'm also available for group advising, speaking engagements, and workshops (virtual or in-person) through firstname.lastname@example.org
Although I am based out of Madrid and head up our business development and discovery sessions for European markets, I also continue to work with North American clients on a virtual basis, so feel free to reach out!

Five years ago I drew up a plan for what I wanted my life to look like, and since that day I have been actively pursuing my vision. I absolutely love where this intentional path has taken me, but it hasn't been easy. It has taken myriad cliff-jump moments and a team of incredible people to get me to where I am today, and because of this I am dedicated to providing critical value to my clients and partners to get them to where they want to be. With over a decade of experience in multiple sectors and fields, I bring an eclectic toolkit of skills, network, and expertise to the projects and people that I work with, often in unexpected ways. If this sounds like a fit, I’d love to connect!
Before pursuing life as an entrepreneur and writer, I worked in the Canadian government for a decade in administration and HR, which provided me a valuable education in productivity hacks and government-speak. Since leaving the government, I have found my tribe within the startup and tech space.
I am Co-Founder and Advisor at Volition, an award-winning startup advisory firm, and COO at Women in Tech World, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing research and programming for women in tech. I have facilitated 34 research events across Canada with 900+ women and men in tech and organized 60+ startup events in North America and Europe. I am also a professional content writer for multiple publications, including MSN, Fast Company, and Daily Hive.
I moved from Vancouver to Madrid in 2018 and now work 100% remote. I avidly support the 'work from anywhere' shift, but I also know how difficult this road can be, which has fueled my passion for supporting the development of remote entrepreneurs and teams.
I have organized and co-hosted 60+ startup community events across North America since 2016. In 2018 and 2019 I launched our Pitch Event series in Amsterdam and Madrid, respectively.
I have sat on or moderated five panels, been a Guest Lecturer at Langara College, and hosted five workshops ranging on topics from investing in women and pitch building, to interview skills, networking and building your crew.
Since fall 2017, I've worked with Women in Tech World to facilitate over 30 conversations with 800+ women about their experiences in the tech industry in Canada. We've created Canada's largest qualitative dataset on women in tech, and are publishing Canada's Gender Equity Roadmap for Women in Tech in October 2018.

In October 2018, we launched Canada's Gender Equity Roadmap: A Study of Women in Tech. I was a primary researcher for this project, as well as the oversaw and contributed to the writing and editing of the final report.
Melanie´s masterclass was amazing, full of insights and ideas to use in my communication strategy and improve my speech. She is a great professional and knows a lot about this. Totally recommend it!!
Melanie and I talked about system improvements, insights, opportunities, partnerships and more in today's session. It was a jam packed 1 hour + call. Action packed. Specific. On point. And efficient.
Melanie's approach, style, transparency, vision, mission and insights when it comes to advising is top notch. Really good partner and really good connection to have.
Every time I chat with Melanie I learn something about myself, my process, how I frame things, how I think about things and how challenging, and yet rewarding, it can be to be an entrepreneur.
She walks the walk and talks the talks and does it all while living in another country.
If you ever need someone to jam about entrepreneur life and everything that comes with it, Melanie is a superbe go to. #entrepreneurtherapy
Melanie's combined background and experience working with the federal government, in the tech space, and as a freelance writer, provides valuable insight to non-dilutive funding. She was able to provide key points in terms of direction and next steps, which I will action immediately. Thank you Melanie!
