YouTube Content Creator
Self-Employed | Nutritional Plant-Based Coach | YouTuber | World Traveller | Blogger
My mind and time are spent on being creative and creating content for the Pick Up Limes audience. I brainstorm topics to discuss, film, edit, and share this content on YouTube. I connect with the PUL audience on social media, such as on Instagram and Facebook. I create content for the PUL blog, whether it's new plant-based recipes or nutrition articles. And on the side, I work on some pretty exciting projects... but those are a secret for now!
Over the course of my career I have personally helped 1000s of individuals deepen their nutritional health knowledge. I've also worked with 100s of individuals to develop customized habits and skills to overcome their unique challenges. Recently, I turned to YouTube to disseminate my knowledge even further. If you're interested in increasing your knowledge regarding nutritional health, what it is like to be a dietitian, working for yourself, becoming a content creator, building a YouTube following, etc. feel free to give me a call. I love helping others succeed in anyway I can.
Anyone who wants to learn more about how to create content and establish an online presence.
Anyone who is interested in working for themselves, or starting their own business.
I know what it's like to start out in the saturated world that is online marketing, and not know what to do or where to begin. I had to learn a LOT of it on my own, but you don't have to. I'm happy to share what I've learned along the way: what works, and what doesn't. Ask any and all questions you might have, and I'm happy to share my experiences and insights.
I completed a five-year program for a BSc in Dietetics. I worked as a Registered Clinical Dietitian at Vancouver General Hospital, British Columbia's Children's Hospital, and British Columbia's Women's Hospital and Health Centres, in addition to working as a private-practice Dietitian. I have worked with a vast assortment of clients with nutrition-related health concerns including those with osteoporosis, eating disorders, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. I have also worked closely with clients transitioning to a plant-based lifestyle, and clients with picky toddlers.
I started recipe development for fun a few years ago when I was learning about the plant-based lifestyle. I'd make dishes and desserts at random and give it to my family and friends. No one knew it was vegan, and when they found out they'd ask for the recipe. The problem was, I never really wrote anything down!
I decided to develop a blog where I could archive these recipes... then I started taking pictures of the food and realized my passion for food photography. And so Pick Up Limes was born!
Recipe categories are:
- Hot & Cold Bevereages
- Dips & Condiments
Taking 6 months off work to travel was the single best decision I've ever made. Terrifying, no doubt. But I couldn't be happier I took the plunge.
Travelling solo, I started in Thailand. Only 3 weeks later I met my now partner, from the Netherlands, on a tropical beach in the south of Thailand. Together we travelled to Cambodia, and then I continued my solo travels to Bali, Indonesia when he returned to Europe. I was considering visiting China next when instead I decided to put yet another plot twist in the adventures: I would go to Europe instead! I visited the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, France and Belgium before returning back home to Vancouver.
Travelling has now become a lifestyle for me, not just a once-a-year holiday. I've moved from Vancouver to the Netherlands where I currently live, and I'm always planning my next trip.
I feel Vancouver is the Mecca of trails and hikes. I feel lucky to have called it home.
There's nothing as rewarding as hiking to the top of a mountain and looking out at the view.
I love nature, fresh air, greens, and mountains so hiking is more of a hobby for me than it is exercise.
Now I look for trails and hikes no matter what country I'm in: it's a great way of exploring a new place!
I read as much as possible, but find I can get through many more books when I listen to them instead in audiobook form. It allows me to listen to it while in transit, on my bike, while doing chores around the house... it's so much more versatile.
My go-to genre is self-improvement. Here are some of my favourites:
- The Compound Effect, by Darren Hardy
- How to Win Friends and Influence People, by Dale Carnegie
- Big Magic, by Elizabeth Gilbert
- Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill
- Psycho-Cybernetics, by Maxwell Maltz
- The Power of Habit, by Charles Duhigg
- The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho
- The Five Secrets you Must Learn Before you Die, by John Izzo
- The Four Secrets, by Don Miguel Ruiz
- The Mastery of Love, by Don Miguel Ruiz
- Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, by Carol Dweck
- The Last Lecture, Randy Pausch
- The Happiness Advantage, by Shawn Achor
- 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey
- Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell
- The Tipping Point, by Malcolm Gladwell
- The Astonishing Power of Emotions, by Esther and Jerry Hicks
The video above is one of my favourite audiophiles, called The Strangest Secret, by Earl Nightingale.
I created a YouTube channel called Pick Up Limes where I post fun and informative videos on several topics, including: nutrition; minimalism; productivity; and travel. New videos are posted weekly! Here is a sample video outlining my meal prep tips to minimize time spent in the kitchen during the week.
People say that eating plant-based can't possibly taste as good... and boy, I'd beg to differ! The aim with many of my recipes are to show just how delicious and satisfying plant-based food can be. And to show that no favourite foods are off limits, like burgers for example! This comforting and hearty bean burger will satisfy every burger craving - and trust me, you won't miss thing.
For each recipe I post, I also link a downloadable PDF that you can download to save for later, print, or share with friends and family. Enjoy!
There's a lot of nutrition confusion out there, and it's time-consuming to do the research to find out what's true and what's embellished. To make life a whole lot easier, I create simplified nutrition articles that give you the information, and JUST the information you need to make informed choices.
I created a website that offers counselling, nutrition articles and wholesome recipes because like my practice I wanted my site to also have a whole wellness approach to health.
I started cycling when my sister gave me her old road bike as a gift. Living in Vancouver was a great place to start. I started slow: the 5km bike to and from work. Gradually I increased the distance until I was cycling up to 70km a day at one point. I then bought a new road bike when I arrived in Asia for travels, and took it with me wherever I could. I now live in the Netherlands: a country known to have more bicycles than people. For a population of 17 million, that's a lot of bikes! There's just so many benefits to it: save on gas, save on money, save the environment, and good for your health. Thanks for the hand-me-down, sis!
My Instagram account illustrates my personal whole wellness approach to health; lots of travel, lots of fresh and local food, nutritious recipes, lots of activity... and plenty more! I upload photos and videos to my account daily.
Plant-based living has changed my life much more than I could have anticipated when I adopted the lifestyle a couple years ago. I'm passionate about the benefits it has on health, the environment and welfare of other beings. I spend much of my free time learning more about the evidence behind this way of life.
My go-to site: nutrition facts.org by Dr. Michael Gregor, M.D. This site has wonderful short, informative, evidence-based videos on the latest research in nutrition and health.
My go-to book: Becoming Vegan by Vesanto Melina and Brenda David, Registered Dietitians. They have also written a book called Becoming Vegetarian and Becoming Raw. Wonderful resources for anyone new to the lifestyle, or even for the pros that want to learn more.
I scheduled time with Sadia because I really wanted some help with a business I currently have and a youtube channel I was thinking about starting. I got WAY more about of talking to Sadia then I even thought I could (and my expectations were already high). I felt like I was talking to a friend and a business guru. I have a clear vision and plan of what I need to do. And I left our conversation feeling good, motivated, confident, and full of ideas. Thank you, Sadia!
I have been following Sadia on Youtube since last year. She has always come across as a very positive, calm person.
I had been going back and forth with an idea or multiple ideas - talking to her gave me a better direction. She is an excellent communicator!
I really needed that push and organisation of thought and Sadia helped me with it!
I am finally taking small solid consistent steps towards my idea!
What a great experience! Sadia is beyond wonderful, excellent communicator and provides genuine and helpful tips. I highly recommend her and the Pick My Brain platform :)
I reached out to Sadia primarily for coaching and emotional support around my ideas. We chatted mostly about how to develop the right mindset to move forward on my projects - and our conversation was both helpful and enjoyable. Sadia is a great listener and offered encouragement, insights, resources, as well as practical tips to implement immediately. Highly recommended!
Sadia is detailed and thorough in giving advice. She answered questions on the technical aspects of developing content and also answered questions about her process. I found her tips and advice helpful and encouraging. If others are seeking advice and direction on creating online content, she is an excellent guide. She was organized and friendly during our 30 minute conversation. It was absolutely worth the time.
I had a wonderful chat with Sadia. I reached out to her for advice around building my own YouTube channel and creating content. We discussed the points I was struggling with and she gave me reassurance and more information than I was expecting.
She provided practical and valuable tips for my personal situation and explained them in detail. This motivated me to get started immediately and use it to create changes in my work methods.
I also learned things when she shared some of her own experiences and talked about tools she uses herself. Her recommendations will save me a lot of time and frustration and will make my process more enjoyable.
The call was organized, open and professional and at the same time, it felt like I was talking to a friend because she was so kind and helpful.
Near the end of the conversation, she summarized the points that she had suggested. And also made sure I understood and followed the things she was explaining. Very pleasant experience!
